The bus service around Liptov is very useful albeit infrequent at times. Here are some pointers to help with your journey planning around Liptov and particularly Liptovský Hrádok and Dovalovo using public transport.

Liptovský Hrádok to Liptovský Mikuláš

There are regular trains at 16 or 23 minutes past the hour, most hours during weekdays with around three buses per hour also making the journey.

Liptovský Hrádok to Dovalovo

Buses are approximately every hour during the day. The last bus is 2237 on weekdays and 2037 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Liptov Cyklobus

There are three buses a day between Liptovský Mikuláš and Štrbské Pleso in the High Tatras (Vysoké Tatry) during weekends and bank holidays in the Summer months (3/6/2023-24/9/2023), with stops in Podtureň, Liptovský Hrádok, Liptovský Peter, Vavrišovo, Pribylina, These are able to carry a maximum of 6 bikes mounted on the rear of the bus on a first come first served basis. Alternatively there is a train between Liptovský Mikuláš or Liptovský Hrádok and Štrbské Pleso several times each day.

Train between Liptovský Hrádok and Štrbské Pleso

These trains are at 0633, 0940 and 1140 on weekdays changing at Štrba then every couple of hours until 1943hrs. At other times it is possible to take a train changing in Liptovský Mikuláš. Dovalovo connections in the morning start at 0552, 0922 and 1122 with several others in the afternoon. One good cycling option is to take the train to Štrbské Pleso with bicycles and return on the bikes by road which is mostly downhill.

The bus and trains stations in Liptovský Hrádok and Liptovský Mikuláš are located together. There are two more central stops in Liptovský Mikuláš on Garbiarska for returning to Liptovský Hrádok and Dovalovo.

Getting to Liptovský Ján

To get to Liptovský Ján and Jánska Dolina there are buses from Dovalovo and Liptovský Hrádok changing in Uhorská Ves Rázcestie (crossroads) which is on the route to Liptovský Mikuláš.
